Cambridge FC gearing up for season

Cambridge FC is getting ready to take part in the Nedbank Cup.

Cambridge FC is ready for a new season and started with preparations and training on August 7.

The club will start the season by participating in the Nedbank Cup in mid-September.

“Our club finished seventh on the league table last season,” said Cambridge FC chairperson Ignatius Maphike.

“We are hoping to improve this season. With so many young hopefuls coming from areas like Kwa-Thema, Tsakane and Duduza to showcase their talents, hoping to be part of the new season, we still hope that more young players from Alra Park, Nigel and Mackenzieville will join us to play at a higher level.”

Maphike said the club is committed to the Nigel community.

“Our club still requires financial assistance and sponsorships that would help make this a success, as the team hopes to be promoted to the ABC Motsepe League,” Maphike said.

“Our team of technical coaches are aiming to register about 20 players for the season.”

We encourage players between 18 and 30 to try out for the team.

“Soccer and other sports are a great way to keep young boys off the streets and away from drugs and crime,” Maphike explained.

“Because of this, our club has partnered with the Jesus Maak Nxa (JMN) organisation that will also host a tournament to raise awareness about drug abuse.”

The tournament, which will be on September 25, will also focus on welcoming back former drug users into the community.
