Career Day readies learners for employment

The learners learnt new skills, what was expected of them in the workplace and more in the agriculture and arts fields.

JJ Masipa Technical Occupational School held a career day at the school premises in Ratanda.

The day was for businesses to showcase what they had to offer in the hopes of getting some learners to come on board as potential employees in the future.

The Gauteng Education Department and various stakeholders from different fields made the day possible and empowered the learners.

Local businesses Quality Meats, Eskort Meat and Multi Screen Printers were all on board to assist the learners with job shadowing and as potential employees.

“This is a big day because we can prepare the students for a brighter future and to become future business leaders,” said the principal of JJ Masipa Technical Occupational School, Olive Nyabole.

“Working with the various sponsors, we are progressing and making a difference. Supplying the students with knowledge in the workplace to be successful and productive community members.

“Each person has challenges to overcome. To be successful, we, as educators, will walk the road with you together.”

JJ Masipa’s dance troupe entertained by performing an act from Sarafina.

Arts and crafts are one of the new subjects at the school, and dance is part of it.

The motivational speaker from Gauteng City Region Academy, Thobega Moshoeshoe, spoke to the learners about how they could prepare for the future.

Her topic was dream.

D – Desire to become something,

R – Responsibility to get the desire fulfilled,

E – Expectancy to become something,

A – Attitude in how you face life,

M – Masterpiece. Because you are a special creation.

Arts and crafts were shown to the learners.

“You cannot touch a dream, but it is a powerful medium. You are an individual, and success is within your reach. It takes every one of you to be the masters of your own destinies,” said Moshoeswe.

After the speeches, the learners who participated at Quality Meats, Multi Screen Printers and Eskort Meats received certificates.

The learners learnt new skill sets, what was expected of them in the workplace and more in the agriculture and arts fields.

After the ceremony, various businesses had stalls showcasing their work and what they could offer the learners.
JJ Masipa’s slogan, Excellence Through Action, was actioned in how they worked for their learners.
