Shop damaged in fire

Building Fire in the Heidelberg CBD.

A fire was reported in Voortrekker Street in the CBD on February 21.

Smoke was seen coming out of the roof of a building around 19:00.

Alert car guards spotted the smoke and informed the caretaker. Lesedi Fire and Rescue was dispatched to the area.

Damaged stock in the shop after the fire was put out.

It was later established that the fire was at Heidelberg Cellular Repair Centre.

Businesses around the affected area were all opened up to ensure that no damage was done to their businesses.
The SAPS, CPFs, AfriForum and patrollers were all on the scene.

Lesedi Fire and Rescue had to cut padlocks to the roller shutter door and glass door of the store to gain access.
The fire was contained quickly.

A lot of the stock in the shop was damaged by the fire and the roof suffered severe damage.
An investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the fire.
