Operation Vala Zonke launched

Road Safety is a priority.

Heidelberg SAPS was part of the Vala Zonke multi-disciplinary operation with various other law enforcement stakeholders on January 9.

The operation aimed to ensure road safety, community safety and driver safety on the country’s roads.

It was also held to keep the community informed about the services offered by law enforcement agencies.

The operation was divided into two phases, the first of which was a roadblock on the N3 weighbridge and the second a sting operation in Heidelberg and Ratanda.

Heidelberg SAPS station commander Colonel Phiwe Ndwandwe said: “Arrive Alive needs to be an ongoing programme and a priority on our roads.”

During the operation, 1 200 people and 561 vehicles were searched.

Eight traffic fines were issued and two arrests were made for possession of drugs.
