Two ATMs bombed in Nigel

The two ATMs were bombed by a group of five armed robbers wearing balaclavas.

In the early hours of December 26, two ATMs were bombed within 30 minutes of each other.

A group of five armed robbers with balaclavas were responsible for both bombings.

The first bombing took place at AJ motors on the corner of Eeufees Avenue and Northern Road around 03:00 in the morning.

The five robbers, armed with AK-47 rifles, ordered staff and customers in the store to lie down.

The safe was bombed shortly thereafter.

The shop then caught fire and both staff and customers fled the shop.

The robbers fled the scene in a white Ford Ranger. No injuries were reported and it is unclear at this stage whether the robbers got away with any money.

The Oasis Garage on Balfour Road was targeted next by the same group. Employees in the shop were ordered at gunpoint to open the door.

Staff were ordered to lie down again and one of the attendants were ordered to fill the Ford Ranger with fuel. Staff members heard an explosion when the safe was bombed.

The robbers then fled the scene in the direction of Alrapark and it is unclear whether they got away with any money.

Anyone with information about the bombings are being urged to contact the Nigel SAPS on 011 812 6503.
