Vopac, Terminal, and Lesedi joined the Meshak Tabudi Foundation (a local NGO) in Jameson Park in the learnership programme.

The launch and learnership programme is called ‘We Connect’.

Vopak’s WeConnect is a foundation that aims to empower young people in communities near Vopak locations around the world since 2016.

They believe that it is important for people to learn to think globally and embrace cultural differences from a young age.

Meshak Tabudi Foundation is a non-profit that was established in 2011 to create a safe space in black communities through youth development such as skills training, mentoring and coaching.

This programme allows Vopac and Meshak Tabudi Foundation to assist with needed resources to learners in what they would term difficult subjects, for example mathematics and science for Grades 11 and 12 learners of Mountain View High School.

The project will focus on the following:

• Providing educational support to the school and its students to improve their matric pass rate. The school’s current pass rate is 69%.

• Revision weeks for Grades 11 and 12.

• Computer literacy training for 50 learners a year. The aim is to equip the learners for the world after school.

• Being part of career days for Grades 11 and 12s (Vopac staff will be part of the planning and facilitation).

• Quarterly study advice and assistance in the learning process.

• Volunteers will be involved with tools to cope with social, behavioural end psychological issues that affect academic performance, learning issues and various applications to tertiary institutions.

• Trying to reduce absenteeism at school and promote classroom participation.

The programme is there to assist the learners to obtain a better school qualification and to prepare the learners for life after their school days are over.
