Former Volkie learner nominated for award

Sally Swanepoel, an old Volkie student, was recently nominated by HSBC for the Adam Smith Award.

Sally Swanepoel (38) a former Hoër Volkskool learner, was nominated recently by HSBC for the Adam Smith Award.

Swanepoel, nee Bruwer, who matriculated from Hoër Volkskool in 2002, was nominated for the award in May.

The Adam Smith Awards programme recognises best practices and innovation, regardless of company size, budget or industry sector.

There are 18 award categories in total, representing the full range of corporate treasury activities.

Swanepoel is the director of corporate finance, which includes overseeing functions such as accounting, tax, treasury and corporate at the company Kitopi for whom she has been working for about two and a half years.

“I was very surprised when I was nominated,” Swanepoel said. “I knew that the implementation that I led with HSBC was a first in the region but did not expect to receive global recognition for it.

“I am delighted and very flattered that it had resulted in a win for Kitopi and myself.”

“She is very dedicated in her work and her company has great expectations for her for the future,” Swanepoel’s mother, Debbie Bruwer said.

Swanepoel and her family moved to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates in 2017.

She describes her husband Jacques as extremely proud and supportive.

“I could not have asked for a better partner on our journey,” Swanepoel said. “I love every aspect of my role here at Kitopi and my family and I love Dubai and everything that it offers our family. It has become home but South Africa and my beautiful home town will always hold a special place in my heart.”
