Sport Against Crime initiative

Promote social cohesion through sport.

On June 17, a Sport Against Crime Soccer Day was held at Khanya Lesedi Secondary School.

SAPS, Gauteng sport and culture, LLM and other stakeholders took hands in their bid to fight crime in Heidelberg.

Crime prevention Captain Mwandile Blose from Heidelberg SAPS said in his speech to the children that the idea behind the day is to promote social cohesion and to prevent crime through different sporting codes.

Primary schools from Ratanda, Shalimar Ridge and neighbouring schools were in attendance.

“We are making it a fight against crime through different sporting codes, starting with soccer today,” said Blose.

“Sport can change a person’s life for the better.

“We are all in this and each one can make a difference if we work together.”

The concept of sport against crime is the start of several events that will be hosted in the area in the next few months, according to the organising committee.
