Trees planted for World Environmental Day

World Environment Day celebrated by planting of trees at local school.

Every year on World Environment Day, the Heidelberg Methodist Church Men’s Fellowship Group wants to give back to the community and help with the environment.

Heidelberg Methodist Church donated and assisted in planting trees at Kgoro ya Thuto Secondary School in Ratanda Ext 23.

On June 4, Heidelberg Methodist Church Men’s Fellowship Group, with Hannes Louw and Rev Michael Lambaatjeen went to Kgoro ya Thuto Secondary School with trees donated by Food & Trees For Africa (FTFA) as part of World Environmental Day.

Advantages of having trees:

It provides oxygen that we need to breathe and reduces the amount of stormwater run-off, which reduces erosion and pollution in our waterways and may reduce the effects of flooding.

• Trees beautify the area.

• Some other benefits of having trees include reducing climate change, purifying air, renewable energy source and reinforcing soil.

The fellowship group is interested to start a separate group, for men from other churches or individuals interested and wanting to be more aware of the position of the government regarding the environment (improve one’s vision by discussing and replying to public participation on Bills and determinations regarding energy and pollution).

Learners planted trees on World Environment Day at Kgoro ya Thuto Secondary School.

Through these discussions, the group provides guidance which leads to better participation and cares for the environment.
