Nigel SAPS conduct roadblock

The roadblock was conducted as part of operation O Kae Molao.

Nigel SAPS, together with other law enforcement agencies and stakeholders, recently conducted a roadblock in the area as part of operation O Kae Molao.

The operation was conducted from the evening of May 18 to the afternoon of May 19.

In the Nigel area 53 traffic fines, valued R19 500, were issued to those who contravened the Road Traffic Act.
Two were arrested for possession of drugs. Dagga was also seized during the operation at an address, but the owner was not found.

A motor vehicle, stolen in Welkom in April 2021, was also recovered.

Four illegal shebeens were closed and three fines to the value of R4 500 were issued to liquor outlets for non-compliance.

Another four fines were issued to second-hand goods dealers to the value of R3 500.

During the operation, a wheelbarrow, five spades and two axes were seized. These are suspected to be used in illegal mining.

In Ekurhuleni, detectives from the Ekurhuleni District police stations also managed to put 277 suspects behind bars during the operation.

They were arrested for crimes including assault, rape, murder, attempted murder, malicious damage to property, theft, threatening someone with a firearm, fraud, contempt of court, tampering with infrastructure, possession of stolen property, and 23 for gender-based violence.

In parallel with Operation O Kae Molao, members of Ekurhuleni District Social Crime Prevention and Communication and other stakeholders conducted a school search at one of the secondary schools where dagga was confiscated after found abandoned on the school premises.

Members also visited the Nigel CBD to address drug addiction as it is where the most crimes are regarded to be committed by addicts.

The Ekurhuleni Deputy District Commissioner Brigadier Lebohang Machakela appreciated the contributions made by members to ensure that criminals are removed from the streets in the Ekurhuleni District.
