Two children in hospital due to vandalism

Unsafe electrical box causes minors to be hospitalized.

On May 7, two children suffered electrical shock injuries after being in contact with an open electrical box.

The children, aged 3 and 4, and their mother were in Bessemer Street, Heidelberg Industrial area when one of the children was shocked by a high voltage switch inside the box. The child placed his hands into the electrical box.
It is believed a protective plate inside the box was previously stolen or removed.

The voltage of more than 11000v is thought to have run through the child’s body.

With the lips and eyes of the child seriously burnt, the child is in a critical condition.

No further information could be obtained at the time of publication regarding both the children’s conditions.

Lesedi Local Municipality is currently being targeted by electrical cable theft with the result of areas that are continuously being without power.

Rensburg is an area that is constantly affected due to cable issues.

Any type of vandalism should be reported to the municipality immediately.
