Germans visits Ratanda once again for annual bicycle tour

Visitors from Heidelberg, Germany came to visit Ratanda for their annual bicycle tour.

HEIDELBERG – Members of the Imbongi, Voices for Africa choir from Heidelberg, Germany were welcomed in Ratanda for a bicycle tour around the township.
The choir works with the Radof South African Bicycle Group of Ratanda as a non-profit organisation in which they sponsor bicycles for their clubhouse situated close to Ratanda Secondary School.
The choir is involved in many projects in South Africa which they feel passionate about. They visit the Radof clubhouse on an annual basis. Members of the Radof clubhouse have also visited the Radof Bicycle House in Germany as an initiative to collaborate and promote the benefits of cycling.
The choir arrived on February 21 and were greeted with smiles and a lot of familiar faces. On their arrival, Mandoza Radebe of the Radof South African Bicycle Group and his team offered them something to eat while they greeted everybody. Afterwards the group toured the streets of Ratanda by bicycle.
According to Radebe the Germans help sponsor the bicycles his group and the clubhouse use. He said there are 400 to 500 bicycles of which all are in working condition.
“It is all very exciting,” Radebe said. He said their main goal at the clubhouse is to promote health and fitness among residents of Ratanda. “The only problem is the roads of the township. Bicycle tyres often get punctured because of the condition of the roads.”
The clubhouse also offers repairs to and the chance to buy or rent bicycles at a fair price.
