HEIDELBERG CRIME WAVE: Homes and businesses targeted by criminals
Resident shocked to learn of 10 serious cases that were reported in one day
A crime wave has hit the shores of Heidelberg and it would appear that there is simply no stopping these criminals who have over the last few months been targeting both households and businesses at will.
Although there are no official statistics available to prove this drastic spike in crime, the seriousness of the situation was discovered when a resident approached HERAUT with a tale of what transpired during a visit to the local police station on September 19.
“I was sitting inside the charge office, waiting to give a statement relating to a crime that took place last week, when the officer behind the counter told one of the people that no less than nine (9) burglaries were reported that day,” our source said.
“I was stunned to hear this, but then again a close friend recently closed his business after an armed robbery so I guess that is the way things are going now.”
“In the last the few months we had six direct crime encounters with friends and family.”
Our source explained that while he was at the station another victim of crime entered through the doors to report a house robbery.
“I looked at the man and said ‘you are number 10 for today sir’”.
Heidelberg SAPS has in the meantime confirmed that there has been a drastic increase in crime, but as is protocol with statistics, an exact figure could not be released.
