How hand sanitizer became a part of our daily lives

Hand sanitizers are now on the list of the most purchased products. How important are these products?

With the outbreak of the global covid-19 pandemic, hand sanitizer has become a daily staple throughout communities and across different sectors of  the economy.

Businesses, healthcare facilities, schools, and homes have all come to use hand sanitizer on a daily basis in order to halt the spread of coronavirus infections and to ensure the safety of their communities. As such, the demand for bulk hand sanitizer for sale has escalated greatly.

Before the pandemic, hand sanitizer was a useful addition on holidays, travel to foreign lands, or to protect curious children from the myriad germs to which they were exposed to on their playful explorations.

However, with the heightened awareness of infection and a greater understanding of how sanitation and cleanliness can protect us from germs and viruses, hand sanitizer has become a long-term part of our daily lives.

Flattening the curve

As covid-19 infection rates began to soar around the world at an alarming rate, global governments immediately took action to flatten the climbing curve of infection.

As part of this massive educational drive, efforts to promote clean habits became a central focus. Communities and individuals were encouraged to wear a mask, avoid physical contact, and to clean their hands immediately after exposure to any possible contaminated area.

It was soon discovered that sanitizer was a particularly powerful agent in killing germs and protecting individuals from the virus.

This is because viruses, bacteria, and other pathogens are in-activated by alcohol due to the fact that it attacks their cell structures. In the case of the novel coronavirus, for example, alcohol harms the lipid layer that surrounds it. As a result, no one can be infected by the virus.

Backed by global studies

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), alcohol-based hand sanitizers are effective in destroying the novel coronavirus.

A suspension of 1 part virus, 1 part organic material, and 8 parts disinfectant solution in various concentrations was used to test virus activity after 30 seconds of exposure to the hand sanitizer.

They found that all sanitizer formulations and dilutions of 40% or more killed the coronavirus and reduced the virus to background levels in 30 seconds. There was a virus reduction factor of >3.8 for the two WHO formulations and a virus reduction factor of 5.9 for the modified versions.

Following these studies, people around the world began to include sanitizer in their daily regimen as a verified means of protecting both themselves and their families from the covid-19 virus, and other germs and viruses.

Final thoughts

Once a useful addition to far-flung exotic trips or for an added layer of protection, hand sanitizer has today become a part of our daily lives.

The proven effectiveness of hand sanitizer against the covid-19 virus and other viruses and germs has caused families and businesses alike to integrate it into their everyday routine.

Hand sanitizer is a convenient means of sterilization, with the small portable bottles easily stored and quickly accessed. With our newfound understanding of the importance of hygiene, hand sanitizer will continue to be a staple across all communities.
