During the operation, they managed to close down one scrapyard for operating without a licence and issued fines to four scrapyards for not complying with the regulations of the second-hand goods law.

“This operation was imperative as we wanted to send a message to the owners of the second-hand goods to comply and not to have illegal goods in their shops.

“It’s important that they follow and respect the law because if they allow illegal goods in their shops, they also encourage the thieves to bring goods to their shops,” said Germiston SAPS spokesperson Maxwell Mabunda.

He said the station is conducting these operations because they want Germiston to be safe.
