TrinkX is inspired by love

Buhle Park musician shares his musical dreams.

Life is all about the music for Buhle Park resident Neo Mekwa aka TrinkX.

The 21-year-old former Hoërskool Vryburger High School learner said his style of music is known as trap soul music, which is hip-hop music fused with R&B.

“I got into music after listening to A-Reece’s music back in 2013,” TrinkX said.

“I was inspired by the fact that he was young and I told myself that this is something I would love to do.”
TrinkX started making music when he was in Grade Nine in 2014 and has never looked back.

“Over all these years I have realised that I’m really good at making music and if I keep working hard I can make it big on the music scene and be successful,” he said.

Neo Mekwa (aka TrinkX) is ready to face the challenges which lie ahead of him in the music business and make a success of his craft.

“The inspiration behind my music is my life experiences, my hustle, my craft, but mostly it’s about love stories because most people in the age and time that we live in find it hard to deal with the challenges that come with relationships and tend to get depressed.

“I’m that artist who strives to heal souls.”

Although TrinkX is a solo artist, he has a team which backs him up whenever he needs it, the team is called Rocka Sensation Media Co.

As he builds his career, TrinkX has already added two award nominations to his achievements.

He was nominated for Song of the Year in 2019 and Best Newcomer in 2020 at the 011 City Awards.

“I was very honoured and excited to be nominated.

“Award nominations give a person credit and show how hardworking artists are,” TrinkX said.

When he looks at the future TrinkX sees himself making it big in the music industry.

“My career plans see me working with big names, getting signed to a big record label and, of course, giving back by working with up-and-coming artists to make a good change in their music craft,” he said.

Working hard and breaking boundaries

So far, TrinkX has released two extended-play (EP) projects.

“The first one to drop was entitled Pane For Pain which featured one of South Africa’s hit-making producers/artists, MSA, and the second one is called Voices which featured one of my teammates, King Swiz.

“I have a number of singles out and a few of them are really doing well.

“One of them is entitled Tonight and it featured my teammate Do Or Die and it was playlisted on more than five radio stations,” he said.

“Another one is called No Lie and it was previewed on Channel O and has over 19 000 streams on one of the biggest music platforms, namely Spotify.

“I am working on releasing my debut mixtape and another EP project with my producer Antidote and a few up-and-
coming producers/artists like 2 Kay, MingoLean, Dassanch Zooneechi, KaHHT ORGINS and Gioia Next Pha$e, to name a few.”

TrinkX is supported by his mother, Sibongile Eunice Betha, his older brother, Lesego Betha (24), who is a DJ and goes under the name Les Klusive, and younger brother, Tshepo Lucky Mekwa (12).

“They are always proud of me for every good move I make in my music career,” he said.

The youngster told the GCN he likes music because it is his place to escape to.

“It gives me happiness.

“I feel happy whenever I make music,” he said.

When he is not making music TrinkX enjoys playing games, watching TV and hanging out with those he is close to.

“People can get my music on every musical digital platform or they can just Google my stage name to reach all my work and updates,” he said.

TrinkX has the following advice for young musicians.

“Appreciate the little support you get and never give up on your dreams.

“Pray hard, work hard and be patient,” he said.
