Obed uses his vocals to inspire

A musical talent with the community’s interests at heart.

Obed Tshibengi’s dream is to write music using his experience and wisdom so he can create inspiring songs for the youth.

Obed (16), who is also known by his stage name Sauceloner, was born in the Congo, but moved to South Africa at the age of two and settled down in Galway Street, Germiston South, with his family.

Among his many skills, Obed writes music, speaks French and also enjoys playing sports, such as rugby and soccer.

Obed’s biggest passion is hip hop and rap music, and his dream came true in 2016 when he released his first song, Back to basics, with the help of well-known artist, Moolanair, and producer, Rey Freez.

“My music aims to inspire young children to stay away from drugs, bullying and to have the community come together,” said Obed.

“I know how it feels to be bullied.”

He wants to use his songs to help the youth when it comes to being pressurised into taking drugs or bullying one another just so they can fit it, because as a young boy, he was also bullied and had to deal with peer pressure.

“My music is about love for one another, and how to interact with people, and I also want to inspire people by telling them my story so that the youth can learn from it and grow in a more positive light,” said Obed.

Obed wants to continue building the community by spreading awareness about drugs, bullying and all forms of peer pressure through the lyrics in his songs.
