‘Boeremusiek’ dance party comes to Carnival City

Varstrap is going to be the dance party of the year for “boeremusiek” lovers.

Carnival City’s Big Top Arena will come to life with the characteristic sound of authentic “boeremusiek” and the pulsating sway of couples dancing “langarm” at the first-ever instalment of Varstrap on November 23.

Dancing the night away as they did in the “good old days”. Couples and families will thoroughly enjoy the biggest “boeremusiek” dance party of the year.

Onboard to create the perfect atmosphere for Varstrap are SAMA, Ghoema and SATMA award-winning musicians Klipwerf Orkes, as well as Die Ventertjies, Kosie Beukes, with his “Boerepompie” and, of course, funnyman and hit-maker Fatman.

Klipwerf, which is the headline act, has become synonymous with the Afrikaans culture, braaivleis and good times over the past 50 years.

Bino Boshoff, who is the head of the Afrikaans music department at Universal Music, said that although their music is still one of the best-selling genres in the country, there are very few official dance events for this style, which is what makes this project so unique.

Die Ventertjies has just received a SATMA award, which is one of the biggest accolades in the “boeremusiek” industry, while Kosie Beukes, who is only 12 years old and has caused quite a stir with his amazing skills on the concertina, will definitely be a highlight of the event.

This talented boy can also play 12 other instruments.

Evening of fun and laughter comes to the Big Top Arena

Varstrap is the first of its kind in South Africa as it promises to be more than just another average “sokkie.”

“This is a full-on dance party headed by the wildly popular bald musician and Dorp Toe hit-maker, Fatman.

“We are thrilled to be hosting an event of this magnitude at Carnival City,” said the casino’s marketing manager, Michelle Smith.

Fatman, also known by his real name Johan Brümmer, became well known after competing in season two of The Voice South Africa.

Thousands of viewers fell in love with his exceptional musical talent and hilarious character, and he is now ready to share some of his own upbeat tunes with those who attend Varstrap.

Varstrap is a Universal Music event.

“The main objective of the event is to host a massive ‘langarm’ dance event, with top-notch ‘boeremusiek’ and entertainment.

“To give people the opportunity to shuffle over a flower dusted dance floor, just like they did years ago.

“The event includes lots of fun surprises for the whole family,” said Boshoff, who is also responsible for arranging this unique function.

The event starts at 8pm but doors open at 7pm.
