Major winnings at the 2019 Rand Show

Congratulations to lucky Rand Show winners who showed off their unique skills at the show.

As the frenzy and fun of the 2019 Rand Show dies down, visitors from across the city are still basking in the rosy afterglow of one the most jam-packed and exciting shows to date.

From completely new entertainment offerings, such as the high-tech Gaming Entertainment Pavilion, to show favourites such as the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) displays and drum majorettes, it was minute-by-minute excitement from the moment the show opened until the final curtain call.

This year, more than R2-million in prizes and giveaways were taken home by show visitors.

The Rand Show supported two charities this year, Childhood Cancer Foundation (CHOC) and the SABC Foundation, which they gave over R400 000 to keep doing their unbelievable work in South African communities.

Some lucky show winners will be basking in the rosy afterglow for weeks to come, as this year the amount of jaw-dropping competitions, as well as the out-of-this-world prizes, were unprecedented in both value and experience offering.

It is still hard to believe the number of trips, makeovers, cars, gaming devices, cash prizes and even more, available for visitors to win just for simply visiting the show.

Talented home chefs made a meal of the JacarandaFM Clash of Ages competition.

The top chefs who handled the heat in the kitchen right to the end were Thapelo Aphane and Alfred Mosenya.

Drum Majorette Competitors at the 2019 Rand Show.

The dynamic duo cooked their way to R60 000 in cash.

South African bakers were also elbow-deep in flour as they fought it out to win the dough.

Dikeledi Motale walked away with the biggest sweet treat of R10 000 and the title of Joburg’s Best Baker.

Fortnite fanatics battled to the end of one of the most nail-biting Fortnite tournaments the city has ever seen.

More than 20 lucky gamers walked away with cash prizes totalling over R100 000, with the two biggest winners being Nathan de Sousa and Kareem Kahn, who each bagged themselves an unbelievable R25 000 in cash.

Cosplay masterminds displayed unbelievable creativity and innovation when it came to the calibre of costumes on display.

The winners of each category were Vincent van Rijn, Natasha Griffon and Shinbone Lisamore (Noob), Linda du Toit (Like a Boss) and Shelby Webber (Beast Mode).

Apart from the amazing cash prizes given away, runners-up received hampers of items from The Dark Carnival, Prima Toys, Nintendo and Chizzeld Designs.

Lucky gamers Anastatia Thomas and Dawie van der Merwe walked away with an Xbox One X console each, thanks to Xbox.

The highlight of the Gaming Entertainment Pavilion was the all-expenses-paid trip for two to TwitchCon USA up for grabs.

Everyone who visited the pavilion was eligible for the prize and heart rates were high as the incredibly lucky winner was announced on 947 Highveld Stereo on Monday.

TwitchCon takes place from September 27 to 29 at the San Diego Convention Centre in California.

The prize included flights, five nights’ accommodation and entrance tickets to TwitchCon.

Saira Bava won the prize.

Joburg’s Talent Show brought out the best singers, dancers, comedians and other acts that the city had to offer.

This festival of talent and creativity had the panel of judges stumped, but eventually vocalist and saxophonist Joshua Donald played all the right notes and walked away as the overall winner with R50 000 in cash from an amazing talent pool.

The most beautiful and most fit show visitors were on the catwalk strutting their gorgeous stuff as they vied for the coveted title of Fitness Runway Model South Africa 2019.

Just one of the #danceoff competitions in the Gaming Entertainment Pavilion at the Rand Show.

Top male model Themba Manganyi and top female model Genevieve Kok took the respective titles.

Top fitness model for the day was Jaco van Wyk, while top physique model was Romeo Moffat.

In the bikini category, the lovely Le Che Hendry took the bikini title and Venita Liassou wowed the crowds as top fitness bikini model.

Fashion was also in full form with the best-dressed man being Charl-Jaquairdo van Helsingden and the best-dressed woman being Venita Liassou.

Shaun Chetty’s life has been changed completely as he walked away with an EasyLife Kitchen home makeover, complete with an entirely custom-designed kitchen, as well as furniture from Home Italia all worth over R400 000.

Well done to Vanisha Dulabh who will be visiting the 2019 Chelsea Flower Show.

More amazing travel giveaways included a visit to the Kingdom of Lesotho to see the extraordinary Lesotho Highlands Water project, a ground-breaking feat of engineering that has been hailed as the most outstanding engineering achievement of the century. The stunning Kirstenbosch Gardens are also on the itinerary, a true delight for the senses.

This year, the Rand Show pulled out all the stops in terms of winning big.

The chance to win your very own super-charged Suzuki Swift sponsored by Suzuki SA was available to every single person who purchased their tickets to the show online.
