Extreme motorsport enthusiasts will be thrilled to know that the Gymkhana GRiD World Finals will take place at Carnival City on December 1, from 10am.
This will be the second time that Carnival City will play host to the outrageously popular Gymkhana GRiD after it was held at the complex for the first time in 2017.
It was also the first time that the Gymkhana GRiD had ventured to South African shores.
This year’s event celebrates Gymkhana GRiD’s heart-stopping year of competition and features a unique competition format.
Some 50 international drivers will go head-to-head in two classes, burning rubber on a custom designed track.
The layout is faster and more technical than before, offering a fresh set of challenges to test man and machine to the edge of their abilities.
“We are thrilled to bring back the Gymkhana GRiD to Gauteng for the second consecutive year.
“Last year’s season finale was absolutely adrenaline pumping.
“We cannot wait to see the drivers in action again,” said Michelle Smith, marketing manager for Carnival City.
She explained that staging extreme motor sporting events like Gymkhana GRiD is aligned with Carnival City’s promise to provide diverse and exciting entertainment to the community.
“Over the years, we have brought some of the most exhilarating motorsports, drifting and extreme sporting events to Ekurhuleni.
“Visitors have flocked to watch these events and the response to Gymkhana GRiD in 2017 was overwhelming.
“We are looking forward to hosting it again,” said Michelle.

Last year, reigning FIA World Rallycross Champion Johan Kristoffersson (All-Wheel Drive) and four-time Gymkhana GRiD rear-wheel drive class champion Luke Woodham stole the show in the final battles, leaving the rest of the field in their dust.
Now the scene is set for a sequel of epic proportions.
“There are some big names coming over to South Africa, and I want to put up a good fight for the title again,” said Luke.
“Certainly I never expected to win it two times in a row, let alone three or four times in succession.
“But by all means, I’m coming back in better shape than before – faster, and stronger.”
FIA World Rallycross Champion, Johan Kristoffersson, added, “Gymkhana GRiD is very different to other events, and it’s a great challenge.
“I’ve raced in a lot of different categories and styles – rally, rallycross, and circuit racing and Gymkhana is totally unique, as it’s a mix of so many skills.
“To see all the different drivers come to race with their own cars – which they have built themselves – is really cool to see.
“So I’m definitely excited to be heading back to South Africa.”
