Technology that could solve our fuel price concerns

The fuel price increases are taking their toll on everything, even on those who are listing property for sale in Germiston. However, we have taken a look at some of the solutions that are tantalising close on the horizon, and how travel could change in years to come.

The increase in the petrol price impacts almost everything – even those listing their property for sale in Germiston will feel the knock.

It may seem a bit extreme, but the petrol price heavily affects the way we work and live, and statistics have shown that house price growth has slowed with the increase in fuel prices. This comes down to the fact that household finances are under pressure, and buyers are more selective of the property options they require.

However, technology may actually come to the rescue sooner rather than later, and the evidence of this is already cruising around on South African roads.

If you have spotted a Nissan Leaf, or the BMW i3 or i8 while ‘enjoying’ your morning commute to the office, then you may actually be getting a glimpse of future roads.

Electric cars may have seemed far-fetched in years past, but each month, they are becoming more viable options as recharge stations are built and centres are being developed with electric cars in mind.

Right now, there are over 90 EV charging stations around Gauteng, while Melrose Arch in Johannesburg, and Constantia Village in Cape Town, are examples of popular places that are embracing this technology.

New and more affordable electric car options are likely to follow in years to come, but even more advanced technology is already being worked on.

For just under half a million US Dollars you can buy a jet suit that offers three to four minutes of flight, while personal flying vehicles are also in the pipeline and could see daily commutes to work take to the skies in the near future.

For now though, we will still have to complain about the fuel price increases and how they hurt our monthly budgets.
