Star-studded Artsability Festival a success

Local and international stars recently shared the Germiston Theatre stage to honour youth and women living with disabilities within the music industry.

The metro recently wrapped up Women’s Month in spectacular fashion at the Germiston Theatre.

The Artsability Festival preceded by the Artsabilility workshop brought three megastars in the South African music industry straight to locals in an intimate showcase aimed at honouring women and children living with disabilities within the music industry.

Tasked with the role of setting the stage alight with electric performances were songstress Gugu Ndlovu, rap group Hullaballoos from the East Rand and Bob90 and the Binos.

The razzmatazz of showbiz kept flowing as Dominican School for the Deaf from Hammanskraal joined Goedehoop Primary School’s marimba band from Reiger Park on stage for a compelling music and dance performance.

“The killing of people living with albinism is growing in our country and it is driven by myths,” said Siphiwe.

“People with albinism are just like the rest of us, they do not have special powers nor can you enhance your muti with their body parts.”

The star-studded show was headlined by the internationally acclaimed Ladysmith Black Mambazo, who were honoured at the 2014 South African Music Awards (Samas) as the recipients of the lifetime achievement award.
