Launch of rapper’s first mixtape in September

C-Killer Mash set to drop his first mixtape ’96 Story on September 1.

Inspired by American rapper Meek Mill to become a dream-chaser, Germiston rapper C-Killer Mash is set to follow his dreams of becoming a rap star by launching his first mixtape on September 1.

Born Koboyane Collen Mashishi, in Mokopane, Limpopo, the Ekurhuleni West College student has always been passionate about music and saw it as a platform to share his adversities and heal in the process.

Using music as a therapeutic outlet began at the age of 15 when he released his first song titled Gun Shots.

Six years later, he was afforded an opportunity to professionally record his second song called No Sleep, and this reignited his passion for making music.

His mixtape,’96 Story, will feature nine tracks including three previously released songs.

“I rap about the only thing I know how to talk about, which is my life.

“All the good and all the bad things I’ve been through are detailed in my music,” said Collen.

The rapper believes he stands out as a hip-hop artist because unlike his peers, he keeps his lyrics clean and audible.

By not featuring any singers or rappers on the mixtape, Collen wanted to showcase how far his musical talents could stretch.

He worked with two popular local producers, Elson Blues and Rey-Freeze.

In post-production, ’96 Story was mixed and mastered by producers, Elson Blues and Moolanair.

“I have not had an easy life while chasing after my dreams.

“The one thing I have learnt is that sometimes things don’t work out as planned and we are then forced to move on, and try achieving our goals through different avenues,” said Collen.
