Help pack food for the needy on Mandela Day

Entertainment hub to host special food packing event to help the less fortunate.

Carnival City calls on local businesses and concerned citizens to be part of the international food packing challenge with Rise Against Hunger on Mandela Day (July 18).

The food packing drive at Carnival City is one of nine similar events taking place across the country.

The goal is to pack three million meals in one day for children in need, to commemorate the late former president’s birthday.

Rise Against Hunger on Mandela Day is organised by Sun International and Rise Against Hunger in partnership with the Minister for Social Development, Susan Shabangu.

“Each year, on July 18, we celebrate the birthday of a true South African icon and everything he stood for by embracing his values and doing something to help make a change for good in the lives of those less fortunate.

“This is the fourth year that Sun International has been part of this spirited food packing initiative with Rise Against Hunger.

“We call on representatives from caring businesses, government representatives and other like-minded stakeholders to join us for 67 minutes on Mandela Day when we will roll up our sleeves to pack food parcels for the needy.

“Rise Against Hunger does tremendous work to alleviate the plight of South Africa’s hungry citizens.

“Alleviating hunger is something that is close to our heart and we feel privileged to be part of this meaningful Mandela Day initiative which has a tremendous and far reaching impact across needy communities,” said Annemie Turk, general manager of Carnival City.
