Young and Upcoming – Episode four with Tumi Stopnonsons (aka Jumaima)

Is he really Patrick Motsepe’s son? What inspires Jumaima? We recently caught up with the Soweto-born comedian and got to know the Tumi behind the Jumaima.

The Young and Upcoming crew recently sat down with award-winning comedian Jumaima, at his studio, where he often records his famous videos. The comedian, who now lives in Winchester Hills (south of Joburg), touched on the difficulties he had in breaking into the industry.

Born and raised in Diepkloof, the 24-year-old comedian, who also MC’s at various events, spoke about the struggles he faced on his journey to become one of the country’s top household comedians. In the space of a year, Tumi went from living on the streets and having to seek out places to sleep, to become a master of his craft who now shares stages with Africa’s well-known comedians. Qualified as an information technology specialist, Tumi pursued a career as a comedian as per advisory from his lecturers.

This is our fourth episode of #YoungAndUpcoming, a segment where we feature emerging talent and hardworking individuals who are making waves in their respective industries.
