Sama award winning aKing set to play Rock on the Lawns

Fans of rock music must not miss this festival.

Cape Town-based alternative rock and pop band, aKing, will treat their Gauteng fans to one of their famously energetic live performances when they collaborate with some of South Africa’s top bands and artists for Rock on the Lawns.

The event takes place at Carnival City on March 18.

The killer line-up includes icons of South African music, Prime Circle and Springbok Nude Girls, as well as the legendary international band, The Pixies.

aKing has become renowned across the country for their energetic live sets and thought provoking lyrics.

They have released four studio albums and performed at all the major music festivals, from the Oppikoppi Music Festival and KKNK National Arts Festival to the Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts and the Coke Zero Fest 2009 where the band shared the stage with international acts Oasis, Snow Patrol, Bullet for my Valentine and Panic at the Disco.

The band’s fourth studio album, Morning After (2014) won the award for Best Rock Album at the 2015 SAMA Awards.

Morning After was written over the course of 18 months in the living rooms and bedrooms of the band members and is entirely self-produced.

aKing – comprising Laudo Liebenberg (lead vocals and guitar), Andrew Davenport (rhythm guitar and backing vocals), Hennie van Halen (bass guitar) and Jaco ‘Snakehead’ Venter (drums) – will perform songs from their Morning After album, as well as earlier hits at Rock on the Lawns.

The event, brought to Gauteng by AMP Events, in collaboration with Carnival City, takes place on Carnival City’s sprawling Festival Lawns which perfectly caters for large-scale music festivals.
