Celebrate all things Portuguese at Emperors Palace

The Portuguese culture will be celebrated at two special events at Emperors Palace, in February.

Emperors Palace will celebrate Portuguese culture in February with Fado singing sensation, Nathalie, and the crowning of Miss Portugal South Africa 2017.

Dubbed the fresh face of fado, Nathalie will perform with the renowned Soweto String Quartet in the Theatre of Marcellus on February 24 at 8pm.

Regarded the soul music of Portugal, fado is arguably the oldest urban folk music in the world and in 2011 it was recognised as Unesco World Heritage.

Nathalie shot to fame after the success of her award-winning debut album in 2007.

Her massive popularity saw her travelling around the globe to perform at world music festivals, where she introduced fado to a diverse range of audiences.

In 2011 she was awarded with the “Amalia Rodrigues Medal of Merit” on behalf of the Amalia Rodrigues Foundation, recognising her as an “ambassador of fado” outside of Portugal.

Nathalie’s latest album, Fado Além, was released early in 2016 and saw her clinch four International Portuguese Music Awards.

To continue with the Portuguese celebration the official crowning of Miss Portugal South Africa 2017 will take place in the Theatre of Marcellus on February 25 at 8pm. The event promises to be a spectacular production celebrating women, culture and Portuguese values, and will feature talented artists and dazzling gowns.

The pageant winner will travel to Lisbon to represent the South African Portuguese community at the international pageant in July.
