Musicians unite to raise funds for cancer awareness

Blood Brothers set to rock crowds with new blood at Carnival City.

The eagerly anticipated Blood Brothers will be back to rock crowds at Carnival City, when some of South Africa’s top artists again unite in the fight against cancer.

Thirstier and readier than ever to go into battle, the Blood Brothers are set to attract thousands as they rock cancer in a way it has never been rocked before.

The lineup boasts new blood this year, as Zolani Mahola, of Freshlyground, will be contributing her charisma and unique, fresh flavour to the concert in the Big Top Arena on September 9.

The formidable Blood Brothers super group was formed last year, when the likes of Arno Carstens (Springbok Nude Girls); Kobus de Kock Jnr (Black Cat Bones); George van der Spuy (Taxi Violence and Goodnight Wembley) and Albert Frost (Blues Broers) came together on Carnival City’s stage for a rocking show in aid of cancer awareness.

While this year’s performance will see the exit of Arno Carstens, the rest of the Blood Brothers will be back to perform the hits which brought them fame, as well as some international sounds which inspire them.

Backed by Hunter Kennedy (Fokofpolisiekar and Heuwels Fantasties) and Rian Zietsman (Taxi Violence and Beast) on guitar; Loedi van Reenen (Taxi Violence) on bass and Jason Hinch (Black Cat Bones) and Isaac Klawansky (Shadowclub) on drums, these artists banded together with the Vrede Foundation in the fight against cancer.

“We are honoured to host these South African super stars who are uniting in music for a worthy cause.

“As host of the concert, Carnival City can contribute to raising awareness and funds to assist young people affected by cancer,” said Michelle Smith, marketing manager for Carnival City.

A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will again be donated to the Vrede Foundation, which aims to create cancer awareness in young people aged 15 to 29.

The foundation also helps to raise funds to treat young people affected by the disease.

As an additional avenue to raise funds, the Blood Brothers recorded a war anthem, “People Gotta Know”, last year, which can be downloaded at https://youtu.be/60YmsxXYeaU

Their show will take place between 8pm and 11pm.
