Local athletes prepare for Zimbabwe

Shorin-Kempo Kaikan Karate Club members have qualified to compete at the Zimbabwe Full Contact Karate Tournament.

Shorin-Kempo Kaikan Karate Club members showcased their talents at the national karate tournament held at the Thokoza Auditorium Hall recently.

The club is based in Katlehong.

“The tournament was organised by the African Full Contact Karate Organisation which saw more than 500 athletes take part in the prestigious event,” said Shorin Kempo Kaikan Karate Club’s head coach, Thulane Sibisi.

“Athletes from Zimbabwe, Swaziland and all nine provinces of South Africa competed.”

Sibisi also said the tournament served as trials for the Zimbabwe Full Contact Karate Tournament.

“We have 20 members who qualified to take part in the tournament that is scheduled to take place on August 6, in Zimbabwe,” he said.

“We are extremely proud of the athletes, they really made us proud.

“The unfortunate part is that we are in need of funds to make the trip possible.

“We appeal to any individual or company willing to sponsor our transportation and/or accommodation in Zimbabwe.”
