Driehoek’s young talent

Driehoek’s lyrical Clement Mulenga (20) is set to release his single on July 1.

Clement Mulenga (20) is an upcoming artist from Driehoek.

Clement told the GCN that his stage name is derived from his middle name.

“My middle name is Mwila but a lot of people battled with pronouncing it and it often sounded like they were saying ‘Moola’,” he said.

“I got used to them calling me that and it grew on me which is why I decided to make it my stage name.”

The youngster also said he fell in love with music at a young age.

“I grew up loving music and it was when I was in Grade Four, at Galway Primary School, that I began to see myself as an artist,” he said.

“I am one with music, it is in my DNA, which is why I won’t let anything or anyone stop me from succeeding as an artist.

The hip-hop rapper and singer looks up to the likes of Lil Wayne.

“Lil Wayne is among the artists I grew up listening to, he is an inspiration to me,” he explained.

Clement’s brother, Andrew, is his manager.

“Clement currently has an EP (mixtape), titled @19 In The East, that we hope to release soon,” said Andrew.

“He has recorded other EPs before but they were never released as we felt he needed to develop and establish his identity as an artist first.

“Clement is multi-talented, he is not only a singer and rapper but also produces his own music.

“We have built our own studio at home.”

Music is not the only thing that unites the siblings.

“We run a business together,” explained Andrew.

“It is a fire protection and construction company, called Umlilo Projects.”

The aspiring artist has had his few minutes on stage.

“I have performed at Capellos, in Newtown and a couple of times at JJ Pub and Restaurant located in the Germiston CBD,” said Clement.

“We sent my EP to Universal Music Records, we are waiting for feedback which is also one of the reasons why we haven’t released the EP as yet.

“I am currently shifting my focus towards marketing myself as an artist.

“I will also be dropping my single, I wanna see (63), on July 1 and people can look out for it on Sound Cloud.

“My music is about observations of my life and of those around me which is also the same vibe people can expect to hear from me.

“I believe my music is vast and diverse, there is something for everyone.”

Clement gave the following advice to other aspiring artists.

“Keep your music authentic and original, don’t imitate others,” he shared.

“Always remember not to do it for the fame but for the love of music.

“One of my dreams is to share the stage with Drake.”
