Rate or hate Lova Bernard

Lova Bernard sets his sights on musical fame.

Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Bernard Ekpe (30) has come to South Africa to set his music career in motion.

The Afro-pop and hip-hop artist known as Lova Bernard arrived in Germiston eight months ago and sees his stay in South Africa as a stepping stone to the rest of the world.

Bernard told the GCN he has had a passion for music from a very young age and that he sang in the Catholic Church choir in his home town as a boy.

He comes from a large family of six siblings who are now scattered throughout the world, while his parents, Gabriel and Mercy, still reside in Lagos.

“My music career officially kicked off in 2010, but before that I was always interested in music and had a band in Lagos,” he said.

“My move to South Africa was to further my music career and once I start to get known I will be off to other parts of the world.”

Currently Bernard’s music video Pasa Pasa Comfort is being featured in the MTV Base Rate or Hate competition and he urges everyone to go and watch it and then hopefully rate him (not hate him).

The winner’s video will be aired on the MTV Base playlist.

Bernard has released a mixed tape called Blood Money that features 10 tracks and he is currently working on an album.

His goal is to become a well-known musician and to use his position and wealth to better people’s lives in Africa.
