Metro hosts day of live entertainment

Enjoy a family day out with live music.

In an effort to infuse appreciation of the arts, including music within communities throughout the province, the Gauteng department of sport, arts, culture and recreation (GDSACR), together with the metro, is set to host the next edition of the Puisano Live music programme.

The event will take place on December 16, at the Spruitview Multipurpose Park.

The date, nationally known as Reconciliation Day, is also well known as the peak of festive season enjoyment and entertainment.

The event in Spruitview is expected to be a sold out affair, where at least six local and unsigned bands will perform live.

The bands were selected from the regional auditions for an opportunity to participate in live performance showcases at various venues across the province.

Among other gigs, the bands have been performing at provincial events, but most importantly at pubs and taverns, giving patrons a different taste of live entertainment.

The Puisano programme is the fulfilment of the Provincial Creative Industries Framework to promote live music and, at the same time, support the artists and offer local bands market penetration and a chance to tour the province.

It is targeted at townships, to develop a culture of live music appreciation as an art form, while promoting tourism.

The event will run from 11am until 9pm, is a family day and open to all.

Patrons can bring camp chairs, umbrellas and cooler bags, however, bottles and weapons will not be allowed.

The bands performing on the day are: Mkizwana Quintent – Ekurhuleni; Native 2120 – Ekurhuleni; Kevin Maduna Quintet – Tshwane; CJ and Friends – Sedibeng and two local bands from Spruitview, still to be selected by the metro.
