New year, new look

Hair to love thanks to local salon.

With the new year in full swing what better way to celebrate than with a new look.

My hair was feeling tired and washed-out, and I needed something to put the ‘wow’ back into it.

That’s when I discovered the talented Michelle Powell from Shaz’s Unisex Nail and Hair Studio.

I recently visited the salon to see what Michelle could do about my locks.

Editor of the GCN Melissa Hart before her hair makeover.

Having worked in the industry for 19 years, Michelle has a vast amount of experience.

“I enjoy my job immensely,” she said.

“There is always something different with regard to styles and colours, and you hear a large variety of stories from the people you meet.”

When I arrived, Michelle sat me down and we discussed exactly what I wanted to do with my hair.

As I enjoy tying it up I didn’t really want to cut too much off, so we opted for colour to give it some vooma.

My stylist chose an intense red for the main colour and added copper and blonde streaks to the mix.

The colour was applied by Nester Ngobende, one of the operators at the salon.

She was extremely professional and friendly, and I knew I was in good hands.

The salon currently has five hairstylists and two operators who describe the salon as friendly and one that aims to please its customers.

“We give our customers what they want, but also give advice when necessary,” Michelle said.

Manager of the salon Sharon de Oliveira, who has been in the industry since she was 16, added, “We offer a professional service at reasonable prices to suit your pocket.

“We work with your budget and will always give our customers something extra for their money.”

After the success of a beauty day held last year, this year they plan to hold them more often.

“This is where the public can come along and get advice from top people in the industry,” Sharon said.

“We also have lots of discounts and giveaways on the day.”

Shaz’s caters to women and men, and has pensioners’ day every day.

They use GreenLite, a herbal product for their applications, and for Brazilian blow-waves they use a product called Salvator, which has been clinically tested to have no side-effects or health risks.

After I had the chance to chat with the stylists for a while, and soak in the atmosphere, it was time to rinse my hair and have a look at the colour.

I enjoyed a relaxing shampoo and then Michelle trimmed my ends and neatened up my hair.

Now it was time for the blow-wave which would allow me to see the colour.

I was so excited and wow it was gorgeous.

I felt like a new person as I primped and preened in front of the mirror.

It is amazing how beautiful hair can make you feel so happy.

I was thrilled with the result and would recommend Shaz’s to my friends.
