Relax, eat and enjoy

Visit Flyboys for a wonderful dining experience.

Are you looking for the perfect party or function venue?

Or just a place to sit and relax while you watch the aeroplanes?

If so, then the newly opened Flyboys, at the old TAC Building, at Rand Airport, is the place to go.

And, to top it all off, the restaurant, bar, functions and events establishment offers wonderful food to meet all tastes.

The GCN had the opportunity to visit the restaurant recently..

Owned by Foti Papadakis and Jason Roussos, the owners of the successful Harvard Café restaurants, this sister venue is geared a bit more towards adult clientele.

The venue is open from 9am, when you can sit, relax and enjoy breakfast, until 2am (you know where to go if you want to party the night away), Monday to Sunday.

It offers three bars, a deck on the runway and enough space for corporate events or special parties.

Private areas for functions can also be created.

One of the exciting features that is soon to be set up is a “Dove” aircraft, which has been donated by the SAA Museum Society, and will be sunk into the ground and lit up.

The area near the beautiful plane will be available for special private functions.

“This is the perfect event venue,” said Jason.

“It is a multi-purpose facility and we are looking forward to welcoming the public to it.”

When the GCN visited we thought we couldn’t leave without sampling something from the kitchen.

Both my colleague and I decided to try the halloumi cheese which was served with a smile from our waitress, Sheila Moyo.

The food was absolutely delicious and I can only imagine the wonderful tastes to be found on the rest of the menu.

To get the tastebuds into action, patrons can start with various dips, like taramasalata (delicately whipped cod fish roe) or olive tapenade (calamata olive paste with fresh sweet basil), served with pita.

You then have a whole array of starters to choose from, ranging from halloumi and saganati (kefalotiri cheese with fresh lemon) to biftekia (traditional Greek meatballs).

The main courses will suit all tastes, from the Flyboys salad (full chicken breast grilled on a garden salad) to Espetada (cubes of beef or chicken served on a skewer Portuguese-style).

Groups can also order platters, which include a meat platter, a dip and pita platter or a “meze” (starter) platter.

Don’t forget to leave space for dessert, as you can choose either baklava, ice-cream or chocolate mousse.

So, for a gorgeous meal, a bit of relaxation at the bar or a special event, make sure you visit Flyboys.
