Elsburg Wrestling Club members set to finish season on high note

The event, hosted at the LC De Villers Sports Center at Tuks University, saw 920 entries and over 1 200 participants competing across eight mats.

Elsburg Wrestling Club continues to build on its successful season, recently adding to its collection of accolades at the Johnny Reits Prestige Tournament held on August 3.

The event, hosted at the LC De Villers Sports Center at Tuks University, saw 920 entries and over 1 200 participants competing across eight mats.

Six wrestlers from Elsburg Wrestling Club took part in the tournament, bringing home an impressive haul of medals.

Lilian Mbena won gold in the senior female category, while Raymond Alberts secured two gold medals in the boys U13 freestyle and Greco-Roman categories.

Latoya Mbena earned silver in the girls U15 category, and Elushka Britz also represented the club in the girls U15 category.

Club chairman Edward Brewis expressed pride in the team’s achievements and their consistent performance throughout the season.

“As a club, we are proud of our wrestlers and the silverware they have collected. We plan to end the season on a high note,” said Brewis.

“With just eight weeks left in the wrestling season, there’s still much to be done, and our focus is on constant preparation for the remaining tournaments.”

The club is gearing up for the national championships at Stellenbosch University, scheduled for September 26-28.

Brewis emphasised the dedication and rigorous training of the wrestlers as they aim to finish the season on top.

Elsburg Wrestling Club trains every Tuesday and Thursday from 18:00 to 20:00 at their facility located at 57 Mare Street, Elsburg.
