Help Hoërskool Elspark archer play in Namibia for tournament

For Kamogelo to be able to attend she needs funds to be able to pay for her travels, accommodation, and registrations.

In a sport where focus and precision are paramount, Kamogelo Nicholson, a Grade 11 learner from Hoërskool Elspark, has been selected to represent South Africa at the AGA Federation Archery Tournament in Namibia this August.

Despite only two years in the sport, Kamogelo is humbled by the selection and now seeks funds to cover travel, accommodation, and registration costs for the event, scheduled for August 20 to 25.

The tournament will feature three events: the AGA Senior Championship for National Adult Teams, the AGA Junior Championship for National School Teams, and the AGA Development Challenge for Development Teams.

Each team will consist of 16 archers, including a minimum of six archers of the opposite gender.

Kamogelo shared her journey with Germiston City News, describing herself as an introvert who enjoyed quiet activities like reading and listening to music.

Her interest in archery began in 2022 when a mandatory school sports programme introduced her to the sport.

Initially hesitant, her selection for provincial teams to compete at nationals later that year ignited her passion for archery.

“The thrill of competition combined with the solitary nature of archery sparked a newfound passion within me,” Kamogelo said.

Her two-year journey has been one of constant growth, with preparation for tournaments extending beyond physical training to mental discipline.

“The focus required for each shot demands clarity and a calm mind, so I focus on mastering those in every practice session.”

Kamogelo approaches every training session as if it were a tournament, meticulously rehearsing every detail from stance to aiming points.

She aspires to continue representing her province and competing nationally, with hopes of one day representing South Africa on an international stage.
