Help Germiston angler get to Australia for international games

In 2019, Australia senior's team participated in the world games hosted by South Africa at Leeuplaas, Vaaldam.

Hermanus Havenga, a Protea senior team manager and Germiston resident, has been selected to participate in the Bank Angling International 2024 in Australia this November.

The South African team will be hosted by the Australian senior team for the first time from November 18 to 22.

The estimated cost for participation and necessary high-performance training camps is approximately R65 000, a significant amount for any angler.

A team of nine Protea anglers will fly to Australia to compete in a historic test series of three tests against two teams from Australia and one from New Zealand.

This event follows Australia’s senior team’s participation in the 2019 World Games hosted by South Africa at Leeuplaas, Vaaldam, and the 2022 test series at Bloemhof Dam, where they played against the Proteas senior team and a team from Namibia.

“The tournament in Australia will be held at Blowering Dam.

“November 18 and 19 will be the two official training days, followed by the three official test days, with the prize-giving ceremony on the evening of November 22,” said Havenga.

“The target species in the dam will primarily be carp, but golden perch, silver perch, and redfin perch can also be caught, subject to ordinances regarding size and quantity,” he added.

Havenga will be the first manager to lead the Proteas team to Australia.
