Germiston athlete aims for gold

“She adores Sha’Carri Richardson, and since she is an inspiration, I hope she embodies her diligence and commitment,” said Ntsoaki.

Boitumelo Masuku, a Germiston athlete and Queens High School learner, is focused on going the distance and bringing home the gold this year.

Her mother, Ntsoako Masuku, a former athlete, encouraged her to start competing at a young age.

Boitumelo has participated in and done well in club and school championships over the years.

She put forth a lot of effort in primary school to become a great athlete, and in Grade Seven, she earned the female top athlete of the year award.

Under the guidance of Thulani Sibeko, she participated in the Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, and Athletics South Africa (ASA) national championships this year.

This year, she also received her provincial colours.

Boitumelo Masuku wears her provincial colours jacket at the Germiston Stadium during training.

“I am pleased to have fulfilled my lifelong desire of earning my colours, which dates back to Grade Six.

“Later in the year, I hope to compete at the North-West University (NWU) Top 30 and Egoli Athletics and bring home some gold,” said Boitumelo.

“My time has improved, and my hard work has paid off.”

As a former athlete, Ntsoaki claimed that in addition to giving strong advice, she also takes on the role of secondary adviser.

Ntsoaki said Boitumelo has always enjoyed playing outside; once, she used the sidewalk to race a car.

“She was spaced out when the driver saw her and continued going a little quicker. She joins me when I jog in the morning, and we jog together. “I am all for her, and let us hope she succeeds in her upcoming events. I always advise her on how to stay motivated and get better on the field.

“She adores Sha’Carri Richardson, and since she is an inspiration, I hope she embodies her diligence and commitment,” said Ntsoaki.
