Runners and walkers invited to a local race

The race will take place at Benoni Northerns Sports Club at the corner O’Reilly Merry and Brodigan Streets in Northmead at 19:00.

Runners and walkers of all fitness levels are invited to enter the Benoni Northerns night race, sponsored by Jan L Jordaan Attorneys, on October 25.

The race, usually awash with colour and costumes, offers 5km and 10km events with festive water stops, music and lights along the route.

Entries are officially open and runners are urged to enter online before October 18.

Local children dressed in different costumes in last year’s Benoni Northerns night race.

They will take late entries at the offices of Jan L Jordaan Attorneys on 1 Forster Street on October 23 and 24 from 09:00 until 15:00, and on the race day from 09:00 at Benoni Northerns sports grounds.

The entry fee for the 5km fun run is R100 (R130 late entries) and R150 (R200 late entries) for the 10km.

Kate van Jaarsveld won the women’s 10km race last year.

There will be prizes for the first three male and female finishers of the 10km.

Schoolchildren must wear their school uniforms. There will be prizes for the school with the most online entries in the fun run and the school with the first 10 athletes finishing the 10km race.
