Banyana Banyana celebrated for their feat

History was made in the world of women’s football as South Africa’s national team Banyana Banyana secured a thrilling victory over Italy by 3-2 on August 2.

This secured SA a spot in the top 16 of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

This remarkable achievement marks the first time in the tournament’s history that three African teams have qualified for the Round of 16.

Banyana Banyana’s journey to the knockout stage has been nothing short of inspirational, showcasing their tenacity, skill, and determination on the global stage.

Their triumph against Italy has not only raised their nation’s pride but has also provided an encouraging boost to women’s football across the continent.

Joining South Africa in this historic milestone are two other African powerhouses – Nigeria and Morocco -, both of whom have also qualified for the round of 16.

Three of their talented players have been a vital part of the official Banyana Banyana squad.
