He was one of the thousands of running enthusiasts participating in the half-marathon that started at Food Lover’s Market on North Rand Road (sponsor) on the cold morning of April 16.
Second place went to Bright Mikolongwe from Benoni Northerns Athletics Club, who clocked 1:11:45. In third was Vincent Seng from the Bedfordview Athletics Club.
Kate van Jaarsveld pulled off another masterclass by winning the women’s 21km in 1:25:55. Tristan Torr came second with 1:33:21, and Kim Searle was third with 1:36:32.
Mashamaite said it was a tough race, but was happy to win.
“I’m very happy, and I thank God,” he said.
Van Jaarsveld said she ran an easy race.
“It’s always nice to win. I found the course fairly flat. There were one to two long uphills. I took the first lap easy, and then I increased my pace in the second lap.
“I didn’t find it challenging. It was a nice race. The marshals were friendly, and it was well-organised,” she said.
