Basketball tournament held in Bedfordview

“We are looking forward to a bigger start to this year than we had in the past."

Germiston’s Jump Academy SA recently launched the first-ever 3X3 Tournament in Bedfordview.

The tournament was held at Eastgate Shopping Mall. More than 70 teams competed in four categories, namely U14, U16, U19 and senior men and ladies.

The event ran over two weekends in March and was sponsored by Shesha Lifestyle Store and The Hoops Lounge.

Several basketball teams participated in 3X3 Tournament held in Bedfordview.

Seaparo Ramaube, the chairperson of the academy, said they were proud of the tournament’s turnout.

“Teams from all over Gauteng took part in the tournament, but more than half of the teams comprised residents from Bedfordview and Edenvale.

“Lots of players were from Reddam House and Edenvale Lions Basketball Academy. We were impressed by the talent these two organisations produced,” he said.

Reddam and Lions won first and second place in almost all the categories.

According to Ramaube, this shows there is a demand for clubs in the area.

Other prizes won included sneakers, caps, balls, medals and gift vouchers.

Lions won the U14 and U19 categories and came third place in the U16 category.

“Reddam House Boys came second in an impressive display of skills for the U16.

“They dominated the U14 category winning an impressive second, third and fifth position despite this being their first attempt.

“A big thank you to the Eastgate Shopping Mall team for the support they gave us with this event. They arranged sponsorship for us and even got the team free food from Tasty Gallows.

“We are looking forward to a bigger start to this year than we had in the past,” he added.
