Alfred Ungerer, Brad Blume and Rajesh Ramnund made it a little further by reaching the top 32, where Ramnund was taken out by teammate Wayne Ellis.

Bradley Gertenbach reached the top 16, and his journey ended there.

Ellis had a good run and took third place. Hugo Deysel won the open by beating Danie in the finals 4-1 where he obtained a 150 closure.

The best play came from the juniors because 20 entered the competition.

Nakita de Lange ended fifth overall, and Tienie Marais took third.

They are 16 years old and doing well in darts.

“We feel like we could have done much better because we did not play to our full potential,” they said of their performances.

Marais started her darts journey during lockdown and De Lange started playing at the club in March last year.

“During the national lockdown, I was bored and searching for an alternative sport to rugby. I started playing darts at home and eventually started playing online darts with the members of the ESDA,” said Marais.

He joined the ESDA and reminded readers that darts is a sport for all ages.

De Lange used to play darts with her mom.

“I developed a passion for the sport. It was an easy decision for me when a friend asked me if I wanted to join the ESDA,” she said.

They said they love playing for the club.

“It has been great playing at the club. We are never scared to ask for help because they are always there for us.

“They feel like family to us,” said the pair.
