Lombardy dancers excel at national competition

The dancers from the Lombardy dance studio and trained by Merryl Hofmeyr, recently competed in the SA Highland Dancing Championships.

Dancers from the Shaw Butler Dancing Studio returned with 12 trophies after they competed in a national competition.

The dancers from the Lombardy dance studio and trained by Merryl Hofmeyr, recently competed in the SA Highland Dancing Championships.

The competition was adjudicated by one international and two local adjudicators.

The studio dancers won four section winners and celebrated excellent placings.

Results of the U16 category included:

• Kirstyn Walker placed first and claimed the title of SA Juvenile Champion.

Walker also took first in the Scottish National Premiership and was awarded the South African dancer trophy.

• Kayleigh Wright placed fourth in the championship and fifth in the Scottish National Premiership.

• Claire Thompson came fifth in the championships and second place at the Scottish National Premiership.

In the 16 years old and over category Sheldon van Niekerk placed fifth in the championship.
