Eight VLC paddlers selected to represent Gauteng

This race was used as the platform to select those who will represent Gauteng at the upcoming championships.

The Gauteng Marathon Championships races took place at the Germiston Lake with the singles (K1) races on May 28 and the Doubles (K2) on May 29.

Helene Janse van Vuuren was among the names identified and selected to represent the Gauteng Canoe Union at the upcoming South African Marathon Championships that will take place in KwaZulu-Natal in Hazelmere from June 16 to 18.

Colin Ledwaba and Brandon Little from Victoria Lake Canoe Club completed the race in two hours one minute as the third seniors.

Other VLC paddlers who were selected to represent Gauteng at the upcoming SAs were U8 Kaylen Armdorf, U12 An-Che Greyling, U12 Bokomoso Nhlapo, Ethan Sanoke, Kyle Armdorf, U14 Sinenhlanhla Twala, Ntando Ndlovu, Rendani Ndou and U18 being Helen Jansen van Vuuren.

Helen and her partner Caitlyn Evans won the U18 girls race in a time of 2:02 hours, as the first female and first U18 female boat across the finish line, even though the weather was windy and the crashing conditions they gave it their best.
Colin Ledwaba and Brandon Little from Victoria Lake Canoe Club also completed the race finishing in 2:01 hours as the third seniors.

Several other VLC club paddlers also enjoyed a successful race including U8 Kaylen Armdorf finished the 2km in 18:18 minutes, and U12s Ethan Sanole and Bokamoso Nhlapo finished second and third in their 6km race in a time of 36.14 and 38.31 minutes respectively.

Other club members also participated in the juniors U12 and U14 K2 race (doubles) including An-che Greyling and Kyle Armdorf who finished their 6km race in 34:10 minutes and Ntando Lungelo Ndlovu with Rendani Ndou who came third in the U14s in a time of 41.46 minutes.
