The country’s biggest soccer spectacular took place in 2010 when the first FIFA World Cup was hosted in South Africa with the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as matches, took place at the Soccer City, FNB stadium, on the doorstep of southerners.

In the light of the next FIFA World Cup and in partnership of Coca-Cola, the fans were afforded a looking back at those years with the magical experience of the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour.

The FIFA World Cup Trophy touched down on Saturday at the Lanseria International Airport welcomed by the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Mr Nathi Mthethwa.

The Minister, who was accompanied by the MEC of Sport, Mbali Hlophe, lauded Coca-Cola’s efforts of giving South Africa another opportunity in hosting a FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour, saying that it was in line with the ministry’s objective to encourage social cohesion.

Also in attendance was South African Football Association, SAFA, president, Dr Danny Jordaan who reminisced on the magical moments that he shared with the late global icon, President Nelson Mandela at the FIFA World Cup Trophy in 2010.

The excitement of the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola was felt at its various stops in Johannesburg, which included an exciting fan experience at Soweto’s Maponya Mall on Sunday afternoon. Fans had an opportunity to get close to the iconic FIFA World Cup Trophy, while enjoying the best of everything local.

Thousands of fans created their very own magical moments with their favourite football legends which included Siphiwe Tshabalala, Teko Modise, Reneilwe Letsholonyane as well as Daniel Cardoso.

This was topped with a surprise visit by Bafana Bafana legend, Lucas Radebe.

The FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola is an extraordinary opportunity for people to share a piece of football history with each other their passion for the sport. The memory of emotions in seeing the FIFA World Cup Original Trophy will stay in football fans’ memory for a long time.
