Sunshine Tour in a new partnership for SA golf

The ISM sports management group has partnered with Sunshine Tour.

A summer of opportunity in South African professional golf has teed off on the right note for Sunshine Tour professional Heinrich Bruiners, who is set to benefit from a groundbreaking new initiative for the country’s transformation golfers.

The Sunshine Tour and City of Joburg have announced that, in a partnership with the ISM sports management group, the leading South African transformation professional at the conclusion of the Joburg Open will be given an exemption to play in one of the premier international tournaments managed by ISM.

Bruiners finished highest up on the leaderboard in tied 51st place on two-under-par with rounds of 70-65-78-69, taking full advantage of the sponsor’s invitation he was granted by the City of Johannesburg.

“We’re absolutely delighted to be able to play a part in the growth of South African golf,” said Bongi Mokaba, director of events for the City of Johannesburg.

“When we started the Joburg Open it was with the vision of this being a tournament that creates opportunity and changes lives. This week was life-changing for the winner, and at the same time it was a stepping stone for the transformation player seeking to take advantage of an equally life-changing opportunity to gain international exposure.”

Andrew Chandler, group CEO of ISM, said they were pleased to be able to support South African golf in this manner.

“South African golf has a proud history of having produced some of the greatest to ever play the game. At ISM we have also been privileged to manage many of these stars.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for us to now play an even greater role in the development of a new generation of South African stars, and we’re delighted to be able to work with the Sunshine Tour and the City of Joburg on this.”

The City of Johannesburg spearheaded the drive to create opportunities for South African professionals this week as it also granted Shaun Norris a sponsor’s invitations to compete in the Joburg Open in his quest to break onto the European Tour.

Norris shared the first-round lead of this Sunshine Tour and European Tour co-sanctioned tournament on his way to finishing third.
