Perfecto flight into the ten

Germiston based Purfecto Archery Club announced the possible return of the sport early next year.

Germiston based Purfecto Archery Club announced the possible return of the sport early next year.

On November 16, Ilani Smith, a team member of the club, said they are some details to sort out before they are back in action.
Before lockdown, Smith said their archers were selected for the South African national archery teams.

“We were set to participate in Namibia to represent South Africa. Due to the pandemic, this was cancelled, but we got our commemorative Covid-19 shirts.

Anneke Barnard, Jaco Janse van Rensburg, Michelle Botha and Ilani Smith were selected for the SA adult team and Kaileigh van Helden was selected for the SA junior high team.

The archers are both proud to be selected for the team.

“We could not compete in Namibia and we were unable to get together locally to enjoy the sport we all love,” said Barnard.

Anneke said being chosen for the national team is a honour.

“I am proud to represent South Africa and be part of such an amazing team.”

Janse van Rensburg said he missed out on an opportunity to put his skills to the test against the best of the best.

“It was not only me who missed out but every other archer selected. We missed out on competing against our peers and as a team, we missed out on a chance to bond and represent our country.”

To his fellow archers, he said: “Practice makes perfect, and this has never rung truer.

“As difficult as it is considering Covid-19 we need to stand strong, stay positive and keep those arrows flying. It is important to stay fit, so hit the gym to strengthen your core posture. Practice at home to ensure you keep your aim.”

Botha said she could not wait to wear the commemorative shirt with pride.

“To me, the shirt means that I am also proudly South African and that I can achieve anything I want in life with positivity and support from friends.”
