Red Bull Hit the Street champion’s advice for locals

This year features the ever-popular Street Fighter V, as well as Tekken 7, for gamers to battle it out in.

Red Bull Hit the Streets is back to crown Mzansi’s best fighting game competitors in 2020, following last year’s win by Alexandra’s own Jabhi “JabhiM” Mabuza.

This year features the ever-popular Street Fighter V, as well as Tekken 7, for gamers to battle it out in.

JabhiM holds the title of being the first Red Bull Hit the Streets national champion.

He went on to represent South Africa at the Red Bull Kumite last chance qualifier in Japan in 2019, where he competed against some of the world’s best Street Fighter V players, an experience he said boosted his confidence.

“When I was in Japan I came to the realisation that the skills gap between local athletes and those from Japan is massive and it will take some time to bridge it. Being in Japan was a dream come true and playing against my favourite players felt surreal.

“The experience ultimately gave me the confidence to call myself an esports athlete,” said JabhiM.

The local champion has a few words of wisdom for gamers hoping to take the 2020 title, and the top advice is to leave fear and doubts at the door.

“Gamers will need to be fearless against any opponent, which would mean they have to have the winning mentality in any situation.

They need to trust in their strategy because the minute they second guess themselves and what they’ve prepared, they are likely to lose.

“In 2019, I didn’t have a moment of doubt even in the second round of the final when I almost lost, I kept on believing in my strategy,” said JabhiM.
