Bantwana on to next round in World Cup 2020 qualifiers

The FIFA u-17 Women’s World Cup 2020 will take place from November 2 to 21 in India.

The South African u-17 Women’s National Team (Bantwana) took the win against Zambia recently, placing them in the finals of the FIFA u-17 Women’s World Cup India 2020 qualifiers.

JVW Football Club, based in Bedfordview, has five players in the national u-17 Bantwana, captain Jessica Wade, Taylor Berkovic, Aliyaah Allie, Jade Leask and Cimone Sauls.

Namhla Mphelo, South African Football Association (SAFA) media officer, said Bantwana overturned a 2-0 loss from the first leg, with a 3-0 win against Zambia.

“Captain Jessica Wade broke the deadlock on 12 minutes before second half strikes from Nelly Gamede and Kananelo Taiwe completed the comeback,” said Mphelo.

Mphelo announced the victory earned Bantwana a spot in the final round of the World Cup qualifiers.

The team joins four other teams, Cameroon, Uganda, Nigeria and Ghana.

“Just like South Africa, Uganda reversed first-leg deficits in the qualifiers, while Cameroon, Ghana and Nigeria cruised through in style,” said Mphelo.
